Bearings Claimed

Born in Reno, Nevada, Robert Brady has rigorously explored figurative abstraction for over the last forty years. Brady began his artistic career as a potter, eventually finding figurative ceramic and wood sculpture. Prolific and versatile, his unique style and imagery represents the morphing of a personal lexicon of graphic symbols with color, revealing a whimsical sense of humor, energetic process and primitive mixture of materials. Though deeply engaged in abstraction and trying to avoid a linear artistic pursuit, Brady is at the same time able to provide viewers with plenty of representational handholds: faces, tools, and architectural details. His references to artifacts, equipment, pictographs and tribal art resonate strongly. Brady earned his BFA at the California College of Arts and Crafts in 1969 and went on to earn an MFA at the University of California, Davis in 1975.

In addition to being widely exhibited and collected by museums and corporations across the country, Robert Brady was a Professor in the Department of Art at California State University, Sacramento for thirty-five years and lectured throughout the United States and Japan. Brady retired from teaching in 2009. His exhibition history includes the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York, the Palo Alto Art Center, CA, the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA, the Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, CA and the Seto Ceramics and Glass Center in Seto, Aichi, Japan to name a few.
